Educate Yourself About the Southern Redcedar and Its Visiting Birds
Southern Redcedar
Southern Redcedar (Juniperus silicicola) has many different kinds of birds visiting, and feeding on the seeds from its cones. Birds like the Northern Flickers, Cedar Waxwings, Eastern Bluebirds, and Yellow-rumped Warblers will be returning frequently. The Southern Redcedar likes full sun and will grow best in wet places, but can accept different moisture levels. Lime-stone rich soils are especially to there liking.
This tree will grow up to 50ft (15m), and will have a spread of 25ft (7.6m). An alternative is the Eastern Redcedar (J. virginiana), and this tree will do fine in sunny areas, where the soil is high in limestone, but will do just fine in different conditions as well.
