Educate Yourself About the Sassafras Tree and Its Berry-eating Birds

Sassafras

Sassafras (Sassafras albidium) is a nice looking tree for your bird feeding garden, with its large dark-green leaves turning into a beautiful orange yellow color in the fall. At least 15 different kinds of birds will feast on its fall ripe, dark blue fruits.

Suspending a beautiful glass bird feeder, between those fall leaves, and watching it shimmer in the morning sun, might turn the Sassafras tree picture perfect. It prefers sun to some shade, and will grow fine in moist, acidic, well-drained soil. The Sassafras will grow up to 30ft (9m), and have spread of around 25ft (7.5m).
