Educate Yourself About the White Pine and Other Pines
White Pine
White Pine (Pinus strobes), growing to more than 100ft, is the tallest conifer in the northeast. Its cones contain a wealth of nutritious seeds, consumed by at least 38 different birds. Placing some tube bird feeders in the tree when it is not producing food for the birds is a great idea.
The White Pine does best in full sun, can tolerate different soils, but prefers well-drained. The White Pines can grow up to 100ft (30m), and its spread will be around 20-25ft (6-7.5m). An alternative is the Jack Pine (P. banksiana), it is short lived and slow growing in a variety of conditions from 1,000-2,700ft (305-823m) elevation.
