Washington Hawthorn ( Craetaegus phaenopyrum), has a massive amount of white flowers in the spring and its fruit will turn bright orange in the fall. At least 18 different birds will eat its fruit, especially Cedar Waxwings. Place some tubular hanging bird feeders in the tree when it is not bearing fruit, is always a good idea in your bird feeding garden.

The Washington Hawthorn likes full sun and likes all types of well-drained soil, except for alkaline. Prune this tree in the winter time or early spring. It will grow to height of about 40ft (12m) and will have a spread of around 20-25ft (6-7.5m). Some alternatives are the Dotted Hawthorn (C. punctata), and the Fourleaf Hawthorn (C. flabelleata), they both like most acidic to neutral, well-drained soil.
