Educate Yourself About the Shadbush Serviceberry and Its Fruit-eating birds
Shadbush Serviceberry
Shadebush Serviceberry (Amelancheir canadenis) will have early spring flowers on its tree or shrub. The flowers will turn into small purple fruits by May and June and at least 26 different kinds of birds will enjoy this fruit. The waxwings and Robins are big fans. Placing some bird feeding tables next to this tree or shrub will be greatly appreciated by many birds in your backyard or bird feeding garden.
The Shadebush Serviceberry will grow the best in full sun to some shade, and like damp, boggy and swampy soil. It will grow up to “between” 20-25ft (6-7.5m), and have a spread to about 10ft (6-7.5m). An alternative is the Bartram Serviceberry (A. Bartramiana) prefers rich, peaty soil, in full sun to partly shady.
