Educate Yourself About the Northern Bayberry and Its Berry Eating Birds

Northern Bayberry

Northern Bayberry (Myrica pensylvancia) bears waxy grey fruits and is especially important for Red-bellied Woodpeckers, Yellow-rumped Warblers, and Tree Swallows. This trees fruit is a favorite of at least 25 different birds as well. Always remember to put out extra food in hanging bird feeders and or bird feeding tables, since food can be hard to come by for birds that are sick or injured.

The Northern Bayberry is a very well growing bush, and likes sun to half sun in swampy, sandy, well-drained soil. It can grow up to “between” 3-8ft (.9-2.4m) and will have a spread of around 5-12ft (1.5-3.7m).
