Educate Yourself About the Eastern Redcedar and Its Visiting Birds

Eastern Redcedar

Eastern Redcedar (Juniperus virginiana), this small tree will provide food for over 30 different spices. Birds like American Robins, Cedar Waxwings, Yellow-rumped Warblers, and Eastern Bluebirds will be visiting this tree often.

The Eastern Redcedar does best in open, sunny areas with lime-stone rich soil. It can grow in a variety of conditions, including poor, eroded, overgrazed soils. This tree can grow up to “between” 40-50ft (12-15m) and its spread will be around 15-25ft (4.5-7.5m). An alternative is the Common Juniper (J. communis).
