Educate Yourself About the Creeping Juniper and Its Berry-eating Birds
Creeping Juniper
Creeping Juniper (Juniper horezontalis) has a mat-forming shrub, and bears blue-green fruits that are loved by American Robins, waxwings, Swainson’s Thruchers, and many other different kinds of ground feeding birds.
The Creeping Juniper has to have full sun with well-drained soil, and grows best over gravel or shallow soil. It can grow up to “between” 1-2ft (.3-.6m), and has a spread of 4-8ft (1.2-2.4m). An alternative is the Common Jupiter (J. communis).
