Educate Yourself About the Common Spicebush and Its Migrant Birds

Common Spicebush

Common Spicebush (Lindera benzoin) has a yellow color to it, and is a very much loved plant by at least 15 different birds like thrushes, Gray Catbird and robins. The red fruit it bears is especially liked by fall migrant birds, because of its high fat content. Putting out hanging bird feeders and bird feeding tables is a great addition to all the red fruit.

The Common Spicebush is happy in sun or shade, and prefers its soil moist and fertile, but will accept dry soil as well. This plant is very hard to transplant. It will grow up to “between” 15ft (4.5m) and will have a spread of about 8ft (2m).
