Unwanted Wildlife
Unwanted wildlife
You can get hanging birdfeeders that have special devises to keep unwanted guests away from your hanging birdfeeder. There will always be squirrels, chipmunks and other little critters willing to steal from the different delights you have filled your hanging birdfeeder with. These little guys can jump gaps of up to 6 feet (2m) and climb the smallest, thinnest branches to reach the desired food. They can also chew of the string from the hanging birdfeeder and drag the whole birdfeeder with them.
You will have some unwanted guests like jays and other larger birds in your bird feeding garden, which will often eat most of the seeds and leave very little leftovers for the smaller birds. There are hanging birdfeeders with a feeder guard around it, made of 2x2 in welded wire, and this will only permit the smaller birds which can easily slip trough the wire and enjoy the feast.
