Homemade suet and peanut-butter recipes

Many different birds like chickadees, nuthatches and woodpeckers really enjoy eating raw beef-kidney suet. In a saucepan, melt the suet on the stove and then while it is still warm pour the fat into an empty coconut shell. Let it sit and harden, and then fasten a wire to the shell. Now your treat is ready and you can hang it in your back yard and or garden. This treat will be greatly appreciated and is also very healthy for your visiting birds.

You can also make “bird pudding”, it is easy, just shred some suet and melt it on your stove, and after you are done with that pour the warm mixture into an empty coconut shell and let it cool. Add a wire to the shell and now it is ready to be hung somewhere in your garden. This whole project will be lots of fun for your kids as well.

If you like, you can also maybe find a suitable log, drill a few larger holes into it and then stuff the “bird pudding” into the holes in the log. Add a wire to the log and hang it where ever you desire. It will be greatly appreciated by the suet eating birds.

There is also a great recipe for peanut butter pudding. Here is what you do: Mix one part peanut butter and five parts cornmeal. Also add some shortening to the mixture for more fat content. To prevent a sticky mess on your hands, sprinkle some flour on the mixture, it will be easier to work with. You can stuff the mixture into empty half coconut shells or a log that you drilled holes into. It is always better to hang these treats, to keep dogs and raccoons away from the bird pudding.
