All About Birdhouses and Bird Nesting

What You Need to Know About Birdhouses/nest shelfs

At least 85 different kinds of birds in North America use birdhouses or nest boxes. To make sure the visiting birds stay in your bird feeding garden all year around, it is very important that you put up good-sized birdhouses or nest boxes in suitable locations. The chances for cavity-nesting birds, like titmice, chickadees, nuthatches, blue birds, and woodpeckers to find suitable cavities to nest in, are getting scarce. So, you are not only setting up a nice friendly bird feeding garden, you are also helping the population to grow for these birds.

Most nest shelfs should be positioned in sheltered spots, such as between foliage of a climbing plant, vine, or conifer. They can also be placed under eaves of your house or any stable surface with sufficient shelter around it.
