Learn About Where to Put Your Hanging Bird feeders
Where to place your hanging bird feeders
It is of course lovely to be able to watch your feathered friends from your kitchen window or your living room, eating from hanging bird feeders. But always remember to hang your bird feeder at least 3 feet from any window, to avoid any accidents. If the hanging bird feeder is to close to the window, the bird will have no chance of altering its course and will crash into it.
Large windows will reflect the skies and large trees and make an illusion of open space for the bird. It is an excellent idea to hang mobiles, decals, or clinging charms on or next to the window to avoid such a tragedy. Around 1 billion birds in the US alone die each year from running in to windows.
When you put out your hanging bird feeder in the garden or the backyard, make sure that the space around it has some protection like other trees, shrubs or bushes. This will make it harder for predators such as Cooper’s and Sharp-shinned Hawks to dash down and raid the birds feeding on the hanging bird feeder. Unfortunately it will always be hard to keep cats, raccoons and skunks away from prowling around, but you do your best to keep such terrible encounters away from our little fine feathered friends.
